FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What are the eligibility requirements to apply? Students must be entering their junior or senior years at UCI and have a grade point average of at minimum 3.0.
Who should I ask to serve as my faculty mentor? Faculty mentors provide invaluable feedback to students as they design and teach their courses. Ideally, faculty mentors should have subject area expertise that relates to the topic of your proposed course. Faculty mentors must be senate faculty members (Assistant Professor, Assistant Professor of Teaching, Associate Professor, Associate Professor of Teaching, Professor, Professor of Teaching). Graduate students are not eligible to serve as faculty mentors.
Are their particular topics that are best-suited for UTeach courses? We welcome courses from all the academic disciplines represented on our campus! The primary guidelines for courses taught in the program are: (1) they should be aimed at all students, inclusive of those who have no background knowledge in the subject matter; (2) they should not replicate courses already being taught at UCI; (3) they should facilitate intellectual inquiry and discovery.
